Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2 Mov. 1

The most beautiful piano concerto ever written. At its 1897 premiere, Rachmaninoff’s first symphony, though now considered a significant achievement, was derided by contemporary critics. Compounded by problems in his personal life, Rachmaninoff fell into a depression that lasted for several years (another hit to his depression was the death of Tchaikovsky prior to the first symphony’s primer). His second piano concerto confirmed his recovery from clinical depression and writer’s block, and helped bring him the confidence to write some of his greatest works (His second symphony being one example). The concerto was dedicated to Nikolai Dahl, the physician who had done much to restore Rachmaninoff’s self-confidence. Played by: Evgeny Kissin and the London Symphony Orchestra.

I don’t think people really listen to one type of music. There’s plenty of room in our hearts and minds for different types of music. You and your peers are young.´╗┐ Music may not be AS important to them as it is to you. Just consider yourself lucky! čÖé

  2. Lol, thanks. I am glad that there is people like you to encourage me. čÖé Feel free to check out my channel if you want. I have not uploaded´╗┐ anything in a while so my playing is a little outdated, but it is still pretty good I think. Thanks again. čÖé

  3. wow, that’s a nice piece, I hope you knock it out the park! čśÇ

and don’t let them get you down, one day, when you’re preforming all over the world, raking in cash, you can imagine how envious they must be´╗┐ ; )

  4. I am fifteen and I play this music. I am preparing the first prokofiev piano concerto for a performance in may. Most people at school think I am dumb and make fun of me. It is´╗┐ so discouraging, but I will never quit because I love this music!

  5. I love good music too. Im 17 and its a shame that my peers think listening to real music is going to a justin beiber concert…
    ´╗┐

  6. Absolutely one of the most beautiful songs in the world! I’m 16 btw. I just can’t understand those who´╗┐ listen all new shit music like rock, rap, heavy, jazz etc…

  7. im´╗┐ 12 and what is this

  8. I’ve heard rap, and though i know that it’s not all about drugs and violence, I just dont really like it, But I do listen to alot of modern music, like Pearl Jam, U2, Coldplay, and though I’m not a big Metalica fan I love “enter sandman”

but´╗┐ i really despise dupstep, the fact that it’s actually considered “music” just disturbs me

  9. have you ever actually listened to rap? Some of them have a message, youre just listening to the wrong kind my friend. I agree this is absolutely beautiful and´╗┐ makes you think. But in all generations there has been good and bad music. Its not all classical music thats wonderful and good. And its not all new music thats bad.

  10. No, I don’t expect people with bad attitudes to learn. I’d hoped you’d at least have taken some of what I said and thought about it. You treated me like an asshole so I didn’t bother sugar´╗┐ coating it. Grow up a bit, and I don’t mean that as an insult.

  11. Shut the fuck up…douch bag…I’m sure what you’re feeling when writing that shit is something along the lines of Oh…I’ll put this little internet punk on front street…teach me a lesson I suppose?? But seriously shut the´╗┐ fuck up

  12. This is either a trolling attempt aimed at entirely the wrong sort of person, or a genuine frustration expressed at entirely the wrong time. Sometimes giving mention of age helps demonstrate the timelessness of a given thing be it music or social experience or whatever else. This is entirely´╗┐ different than ‘seeking attention from the grownups’. čÖé Now get treatment for your acne, it’s giving rise to such terrible teen angst!

  13. that’s alright, now´╗┐ shut up and enjoy the music čśÇ

I did the right thing by trying to open your mind, but then after your response I figured it is no use, hence “sparking another dumb discussion.” I’m totally fine with your opinion, because it isn’t my own. I was just trying to open your mind. I´╗┐ apologize.

  15. well if you didn’t want to spark something you shouldn’t have spoken in the first place, and when did I say anything about joining the music industry? I’m not ignorant, I know many´╗┐ pieces of modern music are works of art, and it’s fine if you enjoy rap, but its my personal opinion that rap doesn’t have that level of passion, call me a child all you want, but if you can’t respect someone else’s opinion you’re no more mature than I am

Here we go, I never thought I’d spark up yet another dumb youtube discussion…you really don’t understand that you are generalizing? It may be so that most rappers and most EDM songs have little soul and little heart, and don’t get me wrong, I love most of classical, but whatever you do NEVER generalize, anything. there are outliers everywhere. you sound ignorant. You’re just a kid but professionals will stomp you if you keep this´╗┐ up. If you keep it up, don’t join the music industry for ur sake.

  17. i like more than classical, i enjoy bands like pearl jam and coldplay, but rap consists mostly of glorified drug use and violence, and auto-tuned music is nothing but using technology´╗┐ to make a bad singer sound decent, neither of which have the same level of skill and passion as classical, some contemporary pieces come close, but not the two genres of “music” that i previously stated

I agree with you, too much sucking´╗┐ up in here…

everyone here should drop this attitude that “classical music is godly and the rest is garbage.” this is beautiful music but there is artistic beauty in every genre, if´╗┐ a well done production. you have to find it.

  20. Dude. So true! And´╗┐ I personally don’t get why someone would not love this music, it’s just genius and it chills you to the bone.

  21. He was a genius,indeed.´╗┐

  22. The mostly profoundly in human feelings, the most original in all Rachmaninoff’s work,I have listened at home all of his work and he proves to be a cerebral and´╗┐ sentimental and taciturn, still very revolted pianist and composer. He had a sad life, but such a great career, because he saw in the essence of lifwe throuogh the essence of music.

  23. The genius of Rachmaninov was superior. ´╗┐

  24. Good thing you are mature and not´╗┐ swayed by crowds.

  25. es una pena que mucha gente ni siquiera se interese por la belleza y la calidad de la musica clasica…….acaricia´╗┐ el alma…….muy bueno gracias por compartirla
