I had no idea that 40 million people suffer from anxiety. I am one of those people who suffer from anxiety.. whether it is presenting in front of people, test anxiety, or just worrying in general. If you think about it, everybody has some kind of anxiety. The 40 mill. People just have it the worst. This book has helped me see the brighter side of my anxiety. Everything is possible all you got to do is build yourself up with positive things. That is what i do, helps me do tasks throughout my day.

All of us feel anxiety from time to time. Between work deadlines, family illnesses, parenting, and driving in bad weather, it is ingrained in us to feel fearful, anxious, and panic often, if not on a daily basis. For some people though, anxiety and panic cripple their very existence. In this new book, the reader can learn practical and effective ways to deal with this condition.

The author first explains what anxiety and panic are and then offers quizzes to help the reader determine how bad their anxiety is. Using personal experience and nonjudgmental language, the author explains how and why anxiety is important (“fight or flight”), but not necessary, usually, in everyday life. For example, it is important to feel anxious in a life or death situation where you may have to fight for survival, but typically, there is nothing dangerous about riding an elevator. Once the reader understands the origins of the “fight or flight” response, the author goes on to explain ways in which to overcome anxiety in everyday life.

Simple techniques such as proper breathing, visualization, journaling and meditation are described in step-by-step fashion and practice exercises are included. I found the journaling portion to be especially helpful, especially dream journaling, since I tend to have very vivid dreams. Once a person learns the roots of their anxiety and can take control of their body and breathing, they will soon find that they can control their reactions to the situation.

The author also offers advice on choosing a psychotherapist, drug therapy and hypnotherapy. I found this book to be easy to read, understandable and extremely helpful.
